Magazine Cover!
In our exciting editorial debut, Blue Canyon was featured on the cover of Northwest Home +
Garden magazine's Sept/Oct 2005 issue. The cover featured a before and after photo of the McMahon
project, which was selected by the publication as one of four homes to showcase in their "Amazing
Remodels" feature story. The complete spread included four-pages devoted to the project, as well as
a column on tips to finding the perfect contractor, which included several quotes from Rick. In
that same issue, we were recognized as one of the "Fab 50 Remodelers" in the Northwest.
Focus On Green Building
The Pacific Northwest has always been known for its environmentally-friendly ways, and home
construction is no exception. "Green Building" is an important new trend in the construction
industry, and focuses on increasing the efficiency of a building's energy, water and material usage,
while reducing impacts on human health and the environment through better design and construction.
In October, Terri attended a valuable weekend workshop titled "Sustainable by Design: Green Building
and Operation," held at the beautiful new facilities at North Cascades Institute, and led by noted
architects David Hall and Russ Weiser of the Henry Klein Partnership. Blue Canyon has long
practiced many green building principles and as we continue to develop we often find our clients are
the best source of knowledge for green living.
Solar Awareness
Further increasing our knowledge of Green Building, Blue Canyon attended the 2005 Solar
Decathalon in Washington DC. This amazing competition features a "solar village" with houses
powered solely by the sun, as built by students. Bringing together architecture, design and
technology, the event featured many educational opportunities to learn more about the solar
movement.
